Our greatest enemy is not the people around us; our greatest enemy is ourselves. Our greatest enemy is not the situation we are in nor that we weren’t meant to conquer; our greatest enemy is the fact that we haven’t conquer ourselves.
Every Monday at my job, it is almost guaranteed that I will hear the following response from at least 2 to 3 people once I greet them. “Well, is Monday… we are hanging in there.” I can’t help but to think about when was it? When did it happened that this little kid who hated going to bed in the evenings, and couldn’t wait for tomorrow to come, became the adult who hates the sun rising on a Monday morning? At what point did that pure soul filled with joy and excitement for life, turned into this grumpy person who can’t wait for the day to be over? If one thing is true about life, is the fact that life is not easy. I like to remind myself of what Mr. Rocky Balboa told his son in the VI movie. “Let me tell you something you already know… the world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows, it’s a very mean and nasty place, and I don’t care how tough you are, it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it.” To his quote I’d like to add that even though the world is a mean place, we are even meaner to ourselves. We talk down to ourselves, we let other people make decisions for us, we yell shut up when that little kid who lives in us tries to tell us that the path we are about to follow, is not the one we would like to go on. We beat ourselves down, to the point where believing in that little kid is not even a thought… At the end it is better to listen to others, instead of listening to ourselves, right? So, yes, when was it that they allowed the wrong version of themselves win in the ring of life? At what age did they make the decision that getting up and fighting back was no longer worth it? It is you vs you! And if you are not careful, the wrong version of you is going to beat you till no longer you can get up. I promise you there is more to life than hating Mondays, and I promise you there is more to life than settling for less. Nonetheless, we must be intentional! Which fighter are we going to feed the most? Because the one we give more power, is the one who will win this fight.
Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness
That most frightens us.
We ask ourselves
Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?
Actually, who are you not to be?
You are a child of God.
Your playing small
Does not serve the world.
There’s nothing enlightened about shrinking
So that other people won’t feel insecure around you.
We are all meant to shine,
As children do.
We were born to make manifest
The glory of God that is within us.
It’s not just in some of us;
It’s in everyone.
And as we let our own light shine,
We unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.
As we’re liberated from our own fear,
Our presence automatically liberates others.
-Marianne Williamson.
We Are meant to live a meaningful life. We were painted by the greatest artist, so let’s not tell ourselves we are nothing more than a weird lady on a painting… No ladies and gentlemen, we are the Mona Lisa, and we are worth millions. There is power that lays within you, things yet to be discovered are meant to be discovered by you, and the heart of that little kid that you once were has the compass to take you there. We must be like children! We must believe that anything is possible because the fact is that everything is possible in the hands of God. Today make the decision to get up and fight back, put the version of you who doesn’t believe in you on an everlasting fast. Send that joker to starve and start feeding your little kid! Make that kid so strong and fit that next time you come to tell yourself that you can’t do something, you punch right in the face and send them to a K.O.
5,4,3,2… the ref is counting, the crowd is cheering, ARE YOU GETTING UP?
As always, I am thrilled to be growing with every person who gets to read my blog. Life is a journey, and it is an interesting one. I’ve been through ups and downs, but something is sure… Jesus has been there through it all. He held me when I couldn’t hold myself. He is not a religion; he is more than a church and he is alive. He can change your life just like he has changed mine. Invite him into your life and I can assure he will guide you into living a meaningful one.
